Today we celebrate Juneteenth now Federal Holiday as of June 17th 2021. Juneteenth (June 19th) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. This SADLY was two plus years after the Empacipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States
I’d like to call it Freeish rather than FREEDOM as we still have a long way to go. We must realize this isn’t a Sprint but a Marathon. Let’s use this day to remind ourselves that our melanin has been popping and will continue to POP!!!! love the skin that we’re in and while doing so we must make sure that we continue to support one another and uplift one another as we run this race. If we don’t consider our black beautiful and each other’s black beautiful then who will? There is so much that we can accomplish together rather than apart.
As I sit and watch other communities, ethnicities, and races join forces to create generational wealth, I wonder to myself
WHY CANT WE??? We have allowed the system to brainwash us into thinking that we are beneath others because of what was done to our ancestors. Today I want to remind you that your melanin is indeed Poppin and although we may not be where we want to be as a people, WE CAN BE UNITED as a people.
